DONNA, Texas (AP) — The superintendent of a South Texas school district has been suspended with pay following his arrest on charges he bribed the district's police chief.
The Monitor in McAllen (http://bit.ly/1JOhuIk ) reports that school board trustees for the Donna Independent School District unanimously voted on the suspension during executive session Saturday.
Superintendent Jesus Rene Reyna was arrested last month. He's charged with bribery and obstruction.
School district attorney Robert Salinas declined to comment on specifics discussed during the executive session, but said the board's decision was made based on several factors, including the current legal issues faced by Reyna.
Deputy Superintendent Fernando Castillo will assume Reyna's duties.
The newspaper reports Reyna hasn't been to his office since his arrest.
Reyna's attorney did not immediately return a call for comment on Sunday.
