PROVO, Utah (AP) — Utah County officials have approved an expansion of Snowbird Ski Resort that will add new chairlifts, zip lines and a gondola into American Fork Canyon.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1VfJYjy ) that the Utah County Board of Adjustment voted to approve permits for the 500 acre expansion into Mineral Basin and Marry Ellen Gulch.
Snowbird will have to monitor water quality for the next two years before any construction begins and then continue to measure readings after work begins.
Critics of the expansion worry the new attractions will detract from the canyon's natural beauty.
