MADISON, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota State University will be implementing an intensive English as a Second Language program that will prepare students to meet minimum requirements to be admitted to college.
The school says the program will require students who speak a first language other than English to attend classes for 25 hours per week. The classes will focus on four language skills — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — as well as American culture.
Students will be allowed to enter the program at three different levels based on their language skills.
The school says students who successfully complete the program will be ready to meet language admission requirements to SDSU and other universities across the country.
