LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Public schools in a northern Utah town will be closed as city officials grapple with diesel fuel contaminating a municipal spring.
The Logan Herald Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1yWFmFP ) that Nibley Elementary and Heritage Elementary will be closed Thursday. Authorities say they found water contamination Wednesday afternoon, and are trying to isolate the spring and flush the water lines.
Neighboring towns have opened recreation centers and other public areas for Nibley residents to shower and use water taps while the city works with the Utah State Division of Drinking Water to test contamination levels and work on a plan to clear the spring.
Nibley is a city of about 5,500 residents located about 80 miles north of Salt Lake City.
