HANAHAN, S.C. (AP) — Shipping containers are being loaded in the South Carolina Lowcountry with supplies to help children affected by the Ebola outbreak in Liberia.
State Rep. Wendell Gilliard is joining representatives of Charleston's maritime community and Save More Kids workers on Friday to load three shipping containers with those supplies. They are being sent to Christ's Children Home Orphanage in Liberia.
In recent months, businesses, churches and volunteers in the Charleston area have been working with Save More Kids, a California nonprofit, to collect supplies to send to Liberia.
That effort has resulted in the collection of more than 100,000 pounds of food and over 20,000 text books.
