RENO, Nev. (AP) — Pyramid Lake in northern Nevada has reopened for recreational use, days after the beach was evacuated as firefighters battled nearby wildfires in the area.
The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe said Friday that the lake north of Reno is now open to the public for boating, camping and recreation.
The lake was closed Sunday after evacuations were ordered Saturday night, removing about 600 people from the shoreline town of Sutcliffe and 200 people from the beach.
Firefighters have spent the past week battling the two large wildfires sparked by lightning that threatened the area.
The lake was closed to allow aircraft to use it to scoop water to fight the fires.
