AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) — Police in Utah say a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash that killed an 88-year-old motorist began with a traffic stop for a revoked registration.
American Fork police Sgt. Josh Christensen said Monday that 21-year-old Trevor Pitcher feared police would impound his pickup truck and tried to elude officers before running a red light, causing the Friday crash that killed Hal Gadd.
Police say Gadd's wife was hospitalized with serious internal injuries. Her name was not released.
Pitcher is from West Jordan. He received minor injuries and is being held at the Utah County jail on suspicion of manslaughter, reckless endangerment and evading police.
The Deseret News reports the Utah County Attorney's Office is reviewing the chase and the conduct of a Utah County sheriff's deputy who was involved.
