JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A 29-year-old man is accused of shooting and carjacking a mother who was dropping her daughter off at an elementary school on Friday.

Media outlets reported that Daniel Henry has been charged with auto theft, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

WLBT-TV (http://bit.ly/1WdUdFD ) reports the mother was dropping her daughter off early at about 5:30 a.m. for a field trip to Memphis when the carjacking took place. Police say the mother was shot in the hand.

Officer Colendula Green, a Jackson Police Department spokeswoman, told the television station police were on the scene quickly. She said it was very unfortunate that the carjacking happened close to a school.
