LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police are investigating after a University of Southern California student was found dead in an apartment near campus.

Police spokeswoman Jenny Houser says officers were called Tuesday to the residence on West 30th Street, where they discovered the body of the 23-year-old man. His name has not been released.

David Carlisle, assistant chief of USC's Department of Public Safety, tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/1SZyKKd) that paramedics at the scene said the death appeared to be a drug overdose.

Houser says there was no evidence of foul play. The death is being investigated by detectives from the LAPD's Southwest Community Police Station.
