SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy is planning to visit a medical marijuana dispensary and meet with patients who use the drug to treat debilitating health problems.
The Connecticut Democrat will tour Prime Wellness of Connecticut on Monday and talk with patients and their families.
He will also lead a discussion on his efforts to protect the state's medical marijuana law from federal restrictions, including a continued federal ban on marijuana sales.
Murphy says more than 9,300 people in Connecticut are registered for medical marijuana certificates to use pot to treat a variety of health problems including cancer, post-traumatic stress disorder, glaucoma, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis.
Prime Wellness of Connecticut is one of six state-approved dispensaries.
