CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A proposed Nevada constitutional amendment preserving the right to hunt, trap and fish has been approved by the Legislature and is one step closer to becoming law.
Assembly members voted 32-10 on Monday to approve SJR11.
Supporters say the proposed constitutional change would protect access to outdoor activities like hunting and fishing and that it wouldn't interfere with existing regulations on trespassing and poaching.
Democratic Assemblywoman Heidi Swank said that only a handful of other states include constitutional protections for trapping and opposed adding it to Nevada's constitution.
The measure passed out of the Senate on a 16-5 vote in April.
The resolution would need to pass another legislative session and a statewide vote to become law.
