GRISWOLD, Iowa (AP) — A western Iowa high school principal has resigned after being charged with operating under the influence and carrying weapons while intoxicated.

The Griswold school board voted Monday night to accept Thomas Dunphy's resignation. Creston police say Dunphy was pulled over early March 13 for speeding and was arrested for OWI. Police say Dunphy had a loaded gun with him. Court records don't list an attorney who could be contacted to comment on Dunphy's behalf.

The board also accepted the resignation of schools Superintendent Dana Kunze, who said his departure is budget-based. He says the district will save money by sharing another district's superintendent. His contract runs out June 30.

Kunze was arrested in Carroll County last year for OWI first offense and pleaded guilty Feb. 25.
