VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) — A southwestern Indiana library board has approved using an anonymous donor's $1,000 gift to restore Art Deco stenciling discovered during a library remodeling project.
The Knox County Public Library's board of directors agreed Monday night that the donation should be used to restore the 1919 stenciling, which was uncovered during renovation work in a library's bathroom that will become the building's new youth department.
Library director Emily Bunyan had received a letter with the $1,000 check after board members rejected the stenciling restoration at the Vincennes library due to budget constraints.
Bunyan tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial (http://bit.ly/1lAPAUa ) that board members are "just so grateful to the anonymous donor" who had read about the library's initial budget-driven decision and decided to open their checking book to pay for the restoration.
