IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Railway-crossing accidents in Idaho have reduced by nearly half last year, while the number of fatalities has gone up.
The Post Register reports (http://bit.ly/1ofFQSC ) that the nonprofit organization Idaho Operation Lifesaver reported that there were 12 collisions with trains in 2015, down from 22 in the previous year.
Federal statistics show that three people died after being struck by a train and one person died from being hit by on-track equipment while trespassing on railroad property in 2015. Only two deaths were reported in 2014.
Idaho State Police regional spokesman Lt. Chris Weadick says authorities are working to get legislation introduced next year that would "beef up" the state's trespassing law.
