LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's public hospital is asking a federal judge to throw out the work of a court-appointed special master who recommends severe monetary sanctions after concluding that documents weren't produced as required in an employee wage and hours lawsuit.
University Medical Center in Las Vegas claims in documents filed this week that Special Master Daniel Garrie was biased and that he reached erroneous conclusions with no legal basis.
A Clark County spokesman and Jon Tostrud, lead lawyer for plaintiffs in the case, declined Friday to comment.
Garrie says he did his job and the record speaks for itself.
The financially strapped hospital notes in documents that it struggles treating patients who can't afford treatment.
The lawsuit claims that for years, thousands of employees weren't paid for working through 30-minute meal periods.
