PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire officials say a hiker from Canada died after slipping and falling 150 feet while descending a trail at Mount Washington, the Northeast's highest peak.
The Fish and Game Department says 25-year-old Luc Paquette of Boisbriand, Quebec, was with a group of friends Thursday when he wandered off the Tuckerman Ravine trail to fill his water bottle. He slipped on the wet terrain and fell, landing on a small ledge.
Rescue crews responded after a 911 call came in at about 5:15 p.m. Fellow hikers, some with medical training, rushed to the scene and provided the initial medical treatment. They helped get Paquette onto a helicopter sent by the National Guard.
Paquette was flown to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
