BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A former member of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education has paid a $2,500 fine for violating the state ethics code.
Walter Lee resigned from the education board in 2014 as part of a plea deal involving theft charges. The ethics fine, approved Friday by the state ethics board, stems from the same activities at issue in that criminal investigation.
Lee, a former DeSoto Parish school superintendent, agreed to the fine and signed the consent order saying he violated ethics laws.
According to the order, Lee double-billed the DeSoto Parish School Board and the state education board for the same fuel and lodging costs. He also got a discount price for a vehicle from a car dealership that had a business relationship with the DeSoto school board.
