SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A woman who fell asleep behind the wheel had to be rescued after her car went airborne and landed in some trees in Davis County.
KUTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1MbLYTk ) the crash happened on Highway 89 around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Layton police say the 69-year-old woman had been traveling northbound on the highway when she apparently fell asleep. The woman's vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes and crashed into a guardrail. The car went flying into the air and came to rest in trees about 20 feet off the ground.
Firefighters had worked to reach the woman inside the suspended car by stabilizing the vehicle with ropes and cutting through the tree canopy.
The woman suffered injuries that were not life threatening.
