LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas man said he beat his roommate with a whiskey bottle, stomped on her head and then left the corpse in their home for days before turning himself in to police.
Tobey Gibeson, 40, said he needed help for mental health issues as he reported his dead roommate, according to a police report. He turned himself in to a Las Vegas police station early Wednesday and now faces a murder charge.
A 51-year-old woman was found dead from apparent blunt force trauma in the southeast Las Vegas apartment that the two had shared for a month. The Clark County Coroner's office has not identified the roommate.
The two met in the Freemont Street entertainment district and decided to move in together to save money. The man said they weren't romantically or sexually involved, although they did share an air mattress.
A week ago, Gibeson came home late and said he responded violently after the woman slapped him in the face. He said he punched her, hit her head with a Jack Daniels whiskey bottle and then stomped on the back of her head several times.
Police said the man then left home to drink at a casino and returned over the week to sleep, move the body and wrap it up with the cut-up air mattress.
The AP sought comment on the charges from Gibeson but could not verify whether he had a listed telephone number or an attorney.
