LAS VEGAS (AP) — Public defense attorney Richard Boulware in Las Vegas has won confirmation for a federal judgeship in Nevada.
U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., and Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., announced the Senate voted 58-35 on Tuesday to confirm Boulware's nomination to the lifetime seat.
The 45-year-old Boulware declined immediate comment.
He becomes the second black to serve on the U.S. District Court in Nevada.
Judge Johnnie B. Rawlinson joined the district court in 1997. She now sits on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Boulware is from Nevada. He graduated from Harvard and Columbia Law School and served as an assistant in the Federal Public Defender's Office in Las Vegas.
He's also former vice president of the local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
