DOVER, Del. (AP) — Delaware has received 11 applications for two licenses to open medical marijuana dispensaries in Kent and Sussex counties.
Delaware Division of Public Health spokeswoman Emily Knearl tells the News Journal (http://delonline.us/1qZsbB1) that a team of DPH representatives will review the 11 applications and select winners in August. She says the state cannot identify the bidders under contracting rules.
State medical marijuana program administrator Paul Hyland says there's a possibility no winner could be selected.
The bidders may be required to host a public forum near the proposed location to receive feedback, which could factor into the selection process.
Medical marijuana was legalized in Delaware about five years ago. The first dispensary opened in 2015 near Wilmington. At the end of 2015, more than 700 Delaware residents were issued medical marijuana cards.
