CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada auditors blame an inadequate computer system for more than a million dollars in Medicaid overpayments in the past four years.
The Legislative Auditor issued a report Monday saying the state paid nearly $800,000 more than it should have to teach basic skills to people with disabilities during fiscal years 2013 and 2014.
The audit also found the computer system failed to flag a dentist who submitted an excessive number of claims totaling nearly $300,000. Auditors say that in one instance, the dentist claimed to perform a pulp vitality test 28 times on a single patient in a single day.
The Division of Health Care Financing and Policy told auditors that it's investigating the dentist, whose name was not released.
The division must submit a corrective action plan by July.
