ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police say they're now monitoring more than 250 surveillance cameras on Georgia State University's campus.
Department officials said in a statement Tuesday that the university's 253 exterior video surveillance cameras have been integrated with the Atlanta Police Department's Operation Shield Video Integration Center, which includes 6,000 cameras.
Police Chief George Turner says the partnership will help improve security on campus and help police more quickly solve crimes and respond to incidents on campus.
The partnership comes after GSU police reported a double shooting during a drug deal in a dormitory parking lot in February. Authorities also reported a string of armed robberies between December and January at one of the university's libraries.
GSU President Mark Becker pledged additional security cameras and police patrols after the robberies.
