SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 50-year-old arson suspect has been arrested in connection with a fire at an apartment complex where he lives in Bountiful.

Ronald Makin was being held Tuesday at the Davis County Jail on $150,000 bond. He was arrested Saturday and booked on suspicion of aggravated arson.

Bountiful police officer Austin Fife told the Deseret News Makin was at the scene engaging in conversation with emergency personnel when emergency responders found a gas can in the back of his truck.

He says Makin was arrested after further questioning and video surveillance showed him entering and exiting the building around the time of the fire.

One person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of possible smoke inhalation.

Authorities estimate the fire caused about $100,000 damage.

Court records don't indicate whether Makin has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
