4 men die as van, truck collide near Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — A van carrying farm workers collided with a semi-truck near the central California city of Fresno, killing four of the men inside the van, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Friday about 10 miles east of Fresno, in the community of Reedley, California Highway Patrol officer Brian Wendland said.

KFSN-TV says the van was carrying nine men home from work in nearby orange groves (http://abc30.tv/1I95o8Z ).

The California Highway Patrol says four of the men were not wearing seatbelts, and they died in the crash. Five others inside the van suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the truck was not injured. There was no word on responsibility for the accident. Initial reports say neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor.
