SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Three Salt Lake City golf courses are slated to close after the city's golf program racked up more than $800,000 in operating deficits.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1aJ9vwA ) that the mayor's office is drafting a plan that includes repurposing the Glendale golf course, transferring the Wingpointe course to the Salt Lake City International Airport and shutting down the Jordan River Par-3.
A spokesman for Mayor Ralph Becker said the city golf program is no longer financially viable. In addition to its deficit, the program needs more than $20 million in upgrades over the next 10 to 15 years.
Becker's spokesman said the city council recommends that Salt Lake City International Airport continue to operate Wingpointe. The final fate of that golf course will be decided by the airport.
