CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago teen accused of bringing a gun to a South Side alternative school is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Authorities say David Lazard allegedly pointed to his backpack as he was questioned by the off-duty Chicago police officer who was working as a security officer at Olive-Harvey Middle College.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1lODA1y) a police report indicates the 16-year-old Lazard told investigators Monday he was "into it with guys from my neighborhood."
Cook County prosecutors said Tuesday that Lazard was sitting in class when the security officer was notified there was a gun in the classroom. A Ruger 9 mm pistol with over a dozen live rounds was found in the back pack.
Officials of Olive-Harvey Middle College were unavailable for immediate comment.
