MONTVILLE, Conn. (AP) — A young girl whose parents moved her from Connecticut to Maine to get access to medical marijuana to treat a rare form of epilepsy is being laid to rest.
Thursday's funeral for 13-year-old Cyndimae Meehan will be followed by a Native American burial at Fort Shantok Burial Ground on Mohegan property.
Connecticut doesn't allow pediatric medical marijuana use, so her mother moved her to Maine to get access to medical marijuana to treat the girl's frequent seizures.
She and her family became medical marijuana advocates. Family friend Brian Breton, an advocate from Maine Children for Cannabis Therapy, says her plight "opened so many eyes."
The girl died Sunday at her family's home in Augusta, Maine.
