MIDWAY — Utah leaders are encouraging residents to get outside and explore the state's trails as part of the Walk 250 Challenge tied to America's 250th anniversary celebration.

Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson joined community members, local leaders, and business partners Thursday morning at Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway for a one-mile hike along the Huber Grove Trail.

The statewide Walk 250 challenge encourages Utahns to complete 250 miles of movement before the end of 2026 while exploring parks, trails, and outdoor spaces across the state.

"We're hoping a lot of people are engaging, to get out there, to touch some grass, to see the beautiful nature, to connect with other people, with your neighbors, with strangers," Henderson said.

Organizers say participants can count any miles logged since June 2025 toward the challenge. Utahns who complete the 250-mile goal may qualify for prizes, recognition events, and other opportunities throughout the year.

Midway resident Emily Belanger said the challenge highlights Utah's wide range of landscapes and outdoor recreation opportunities.

"Because this country is so vast. It's so diverse in geography, weather, and to just be grateful for the abundance of nature in our county," Belanger said.

Participants who finish the challenge by certain deadlines can qualify for events, including the Utah Summer Games and drawings for adventure getaway packages.

"Any Utahn that celebrates or participates logs their hours and then completes them actually has some opportunities to win," America 250 Utah Executive Director Nicole Handy said.

Utahns can register for the Walk250 Challenge, submit miles, and learn more at the event website.
