ALTA —  Starting Monday at midnight, the Utah Department of Transportation will be closing down part of the backcountry near Snowbird in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

The closures will remain in place until 5 p.m. Monday. The department said the closure will affect the South ridge of Mount Superior, the Superior ridgeline to Cardiff Peak and Pass, and into East Hellgate.

UDOT said its avalanche team will be installing stationary remote avalanche control devices.

The department closed the canyon on Oct. 7 for an installation project in the Upper North area of the canyon.

It comes after the department closed the canyon in late spring to remove some equipment.

We are waiting to hear back from UDOT for more details on what this installation will involve.
