It's the time of year where red, white and blue and stars and stripes get to fill our homes. Make this patriotic flag banner now before Memorial Day and you can keep it up all summer long. Michelle Inkley shared the simple, but statement making tutorial.

Supplies

  • Small American flags
  • Ribbon (cut into equal lengths)
  • Hot glue (optional)
  • Scissors

Prepping the Flags

Before assembling the banner, make sure each flag is facing the right way. The stars should always be on the left side. When hanging it up remember the orientation may flip, so do a quick double‑check before anchoring in place. Gently slide or pull the flag off the stick without tearing it.

Add Ribbon

Cut all your ribbons the same length so the bows will be even. Aim for about a 6‑inch bow for balance. Michelle suggested tying just the bunny ears for a better drape.

Build the Banner

Once your bows are ready, secure each flag in place. Lay everything out flat first to check the spacing before gluing.

  • Add a small amount of hot glue to the ribbon
  • Press the flag onto the ribbon
  • Let it set briefly

Continue adding flags until your banner fits your space.

Banner Layering

Once your main banner is complete, you can add different layers to complete the mantel. Optional Additions

  • Extra ribbons or streamers
  • String lights
  • Additional garlands

Add Patriotic Accents

Carry the look beyond the banner by adding easy extras to the top of the mantel. Michelle loves a candle tied with a bow. She also suggested using floral foam to keep a flag standing up perfectly straight.
