SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health reported 272 new COVID-19 cases Friday, as well as three new deaths and close to another 13,500 vaccinations administered.
With the update, there are now an estimated 6,198 active COVID-19 cases in Utah. The seven-day rolling average of new cases fell to 241 new cases per day ahead of the Memorial Day weekend. Utah's "people over people" positivity rate remained 6.7% and the "tests over tests" positivity rate is 3.9%, according to the health department.
A Salt Lake County woman between the ages of 45 and 64, a Salt Lake County man between 45 and 64 and a Box Elder County man older than 85 all died from causes tied to COVID-19, officials with the health department reported Friday. The Salt Lake County woman was hospitalized at the time of her death while both men who died were not hospitalized.
A total of 2,297 Utahns have died due to COVID-19 during the pandemic, according to the state.
The number of people hospitalized in Utah because of COVID-19 remained at 147 people. Fifty-one of those hospitalized for COVID-19 were in an intensive care unit. The health department reports 16,772 Utahns have been hospitalized since March 2020.
Health department data show that Utah's statewide ICUs were 73% full, which is above the utilization warning; however, only 10% of ICU hospitalizations statewide were tied to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, another 13,478 vaccines were administered, according to the Friday update. With that update, 1,475,675 Utahns have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 1,205,081 are considered fully vaccinated. The state estimates 56.9% of all eligible Utahns have received at least one dose and 46.5% of eligible Utahns are fully vaccinated.
