Let's be honest — most people don't love their homeowners association (HOA).

According to an article by Jessica Edmondson for Rocket Mortgage, more than half of HOA residents surveyed dislike their HOA, and only 64% feel their HOA handles finances honestly.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

Trever Midgley and Joseph Groberg, founders of HOA Strategies, an HOA management firm based in Utah, are working to end the bad rap HOAs often get.

"We are not just managing properties," Midgley shared. "We are managing expectations, perception, and trust at scale."

Strong systems and clear communication build long-term trust, according to Midgley, which is why he teamed up with Joseph Groberg to bring his vision for a better HOA experience to life.

Groberg explained, "Too often, HOAs are forced into a reactive cycle — responding to issues instead of planning for the future. We built HOA Strategies to change that. By bringing structure to finances, clarity to communication, and long-term thinking to every decision, we help communities operate the way they were intended to — for the benefit of homeowners today and for years to come."

Since they launched, HOA Strategies has focused on combining operational discipline with proactive homeowner education — an approach that extends beyond traditional community management. The firm has implemented advanced workflow systems to streamline communication, improve financial transparency, and reduce administrative inefficiencies for board members and residents alike.

They also work closely with insurance professionals, legal counsel, and reserve study specialists to help HOA boards make informed, long-term decisions.

"Our goal is to shift HOAs from reactive decision-making to proactive, strategic planning," Midgley said. "That's where trust is built — when homeowners can see a clear plan for their community's future."

Most recently, HOA Strategies joined forces with UtahRadon.org to educate HOA members on the dangers of radon gas exposure.

"The best HOAs don't just maintain common areas — they actively improve the quality of life for the people who live there," Midgley said. "That means looking beyond landscaping and budgets and identifying real risks inside the home. Radon is one of the most serious and least understood threats in Utah, and this partnership allows us to deliver meaningful, potentially life-saving value to our communities at no cost. That's why we're partnering with UtahRadon.org."

Nearly 50% of homes in Utah have high radon levels, and most homeowners are unaware.

Radon exposure is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, and is colloquially known as "the silent killer" because most people don't know they have radon-induced lung cancer until they get diagnosed at stage three or four. Radon mitigation systems reduce radon exposure by up to 99%.

The only way to detect radon gas is to test for it. This can be done by using a simple radon test kit, like the one pictured above.

Along with a free radon test kit, HOA Strategies provides its clients with educational materials and a sizable discount on a radon mitigation system for homes that test high.

Kerri Robbins, president of UtahRadon.org and a radon-induced lung cancer survivor, shared, "Nearly 50% of homes in Utah have high radon levels, and most homeowners are unaware. HOA Strategies and UtahRadon.org are committed to helping residents stay safe and healthy by offering free radon testing. This partnership will literally save lives."
