Have you ever had a terrible experience with a company and come away thinking, 'Wow, I'm pretty sure I could do it better'?
Well, that's what Dale Lund did. After having a negative experience with an automotive supply company, he decided he could, in fact, do it better. When the business where he was working changed ownership, he decided to go out on his own. The result was Main Auto and Truck Supply in Manti, which will turn 30 next September.
Main Auto is an auto parts retailer that furnishes repair and maintenance items for all types of vehicles. Dale tells me a large portion of the business is supplying paint and auto body repair materials for several body shops around San Pete and Sevier counties. The shops make an order once or twice a week and then Dale, his son Larry or Alex Michelson, another employee, will personally deliver the merchandise.
Customer service is of the utmost importance, and Dale, Larry and Alex do their best to ensure each customer leaves happy. They are willing to go the extra mile, literally; if a customer 60 miles away needs something, they will drop whatever they're working on to take care of that person. Larry feels service is the No. 1 quality Main Auto has to offer.
The Lunds told me that keeping up with technology has presented one of the biggest hurdles Main Auto has had to overcome. It changes at such a rapid pace, especially with the complex parts that compose today's cars. Larry anticipates that the growth of hybrid vehicles and greener automobiles will present a steep learning curve and will require him, Dale and Alex to adapt, but he's confident of their abilities to make the change.
Although Main Auto and Truck Supply isn't immune to the effects of the rough economy, Dale feels the Manti business has a bright future and will continue to thrive.
