The Secret Hour By Luanne Rice

This was my first Luanne Rice novel, and I will definitely read her again. While I started the novel feeling a little lukewarm, wondering if she was going to be too shallow in her descriptions and characterizations, that concern just melted away after page fifty or so.

The Secret Hour is romantic suspense at its best, as good or better than some of the Nora Roberts novels I’ve read. This is the story of Kate Harris who is searching for her missing sister. Her little sister went missing after Kate caught her having an affair with her husband. Now that she’s been gone for six months, Kate fears she has become a victim of a serial killer in New England.

Kate’s search for her sister takes her to a quaint seaside New England town with a statuesque lighthouse adorning the rocky coast. She locates the lawyer who is representing the serial killer, intending to ask him whether his client might have met up with her sister, not intending to fall in love with his children first and later, him.

I loved the story of The Secret Hour, even if it was a little predictable in the end. And I loved the scenery – the cold coast, the rocky inlets, the lighthouse, the crabs and oysters, the people of these New England towns. I give a thumbs up for a great spring read to Luanne Rice’s latest paperback bestseller – The Secret Hour. On the Book Beat for KSL Newsradio 1160, I’m Amanda Dickson.
