KIDS' BOOKS FOR CHRISTMAS

Everybody who’s buying Christmas presents for kids is probably getting them at least one book – or should be!! If you’re unsure of the most popular books with kids, let me share with you some of the hottest sellers.

In the picture book category, Jamie Lee Curtis has a wonderful book called It’s Hard to Be Five that deals with the challenge of self-control. That’s a good one. There’s also Dr. Ernest Drake’s Dragonology by Dugald A. Steer. This one is great for kids eight and older and a must for any dragon lover.

I don’t know about your kids, but my step-kids love series books. My 11-year-old is hooked on the Series of Unfortunate Events books by Lemony Snicket, even more than he was Harry Potter. He also likes the Redwall series by Brian Jacques very much. My 14-year-old step-daughter, who is a total cat lover, adores the series called Warriors by Erin Hunter.

If you’re looking for a good paperback for a stocking stuffer, try Hoot by Carl Hiaasen, a story about a boy who arrives in Florida and comes across some bizarre people, or The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Ann Brashares, which has been on the bestseller list for 67 weeks.

So many good books for Santa to bring the children in your lives for Christmas. Happy shopping. On the Book Beat for KSL Newsradio 1160, I’m Amanda Dickson.
