HEALTHY AGING A Lifelong Guide to Your Physical and Spiritual Well-Being By Andrew Weil, M.D.
It's not like me to tell you not to read a health book. I have lots of health books on my shelves and I've learned something from all of them. And I learned something from this one too, but I can't recommend it - for two reasons.
One - after I finished the book, I read an article in the Nutrition Action Health Letter that describes the kickback Dr. Weil gets from the sale of the supplements her recommends in the book. I thought it was a little strange that he recommended specific supplements, but when I learned that he has a deal with drugstore.com to get a portion of all supplement sales, his credibility just went out the window with me. I'm sure he has much good information to share, but now I'll wonder if he's pushing a supplement because of the million dollar checks or because it will really help me.
Second - the main point of the book is this. Accept aging as the natural process that it is, and eat well and exercise. There you go. The first few chapters of the book are devoted to trying to convince you to have a healthier attitude about aging, to not get plastic surgery or do anything else to fight it, but to accept it. I think there's some wisdom there. But look - I just told you - now you can save $27.95
I'm so sorry. I wanted to recommend this book, but I just can't. I give a thumbs down to Andrew Weil's latest bestseller, Healthy Aging. On the Book Beat for KSL Newsradio 1160, I'm Amanda Dickson.
