JAKARTA, Dec 8, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The editor of the first-ever Playboy edition in Indonesia had to go to court to face charges of distributing and profiting from the magazine's erotic photos.
The indecency charges against Editor-in-chief Erwin Arnada could carry a prison term up to 32 months, although none of the magazine's contents actually contained nudity, the China Daily reported.
"Photos, drawings and articles in Playboy Indonesia magazine were results of the defendant's selection. They were unsuitable for civility and could arouse lust among readers so they violated feelings of decency," prosecutor Resni Muchtar said of the magazine's initial April release.
The magazine has had several editions released since its launch in the populous Asian country and those renditions have lead to attacks upon the area Playboy headquarters.
The China Daily said that the uproar is likely related to the fact that Indonesia's population of 220 million people is predominantly Muslim and most reportedly are cautious when the subject of publicly discussing sex is involved.
