LIVERPOOL, England, Nov 27, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The ambitious plan to build a museum to Liverpool's history, warts and all, has stirred controversy in the British city that was home to the Beatles.
Monday's Guardian reports the museum not only plans exhibits on major historical eras, but also some of Liverpool's darker moments, possibly including the murder of 2-year-old James Bulger 13 years ago.
Bulger's mom told the newspaper she was outraged at the idea and had never been consulted about such an exhibit.
Museum officials said they had no concrete plans to create a Bulger exhibit; however, they said they had to show the bad along with the good to tell an accurate and complete story of Liverpool's growth from Roman outpost to major European seaport and industrial center.
The museum is scheduled to open in 2010.
