My husband Aaron is the best father I know. . . in fact, he's the best father I know of. My own father was, and is, a very loving and engaged father - but Aaron is just a different species.

He's the type of father who will, without hesitation, give up his fulfilling career to be a full-time father. He is the type of dad who will not give up on his children, no matter how much they test him or how far they push him. He doesn't even consider not putting his children first - it just doesn't come to his mind to consider it.

Every minute of his time, every dime in his pocket, every ounce of his energy goes to his children and me. I try to talk him into spending time with his friends or doing something for himself, and he'll have none of it. Our happiness is his happiness, he says. If he's not teaching his teenage son how to drive, he's looking at something online with his 19-year-old daughter or bowling with his 20-year-old Down Syndrome daughter. Or maybe he's building a fort with his two little boys or teaching the 4-year-old how to ride a bike.

I know these are not extraordinary things in and of themselves. Maybe that's the thing about fathers - none of the parts is noteworthy, but the whole - the whole is something to write home about (or a blog about.)

Happy Father's Day Aaron, my love.
