This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

It's important for each of us to do our part in caring for the condition of our planet. We want our children and our children's children to be able to enjoy the same beautiful sites we see on a daily basis. The key lies in doing whatever is in our power to help out.

Many years ago Carl Clark realized his passion for doing what he could to clean up the planet. A former member of the Utah Senate, Carl drafted and eventually saw the state's first air pollution legislation, the Utah Clean Air Act, become law. He has been concerned about environmental issues ever since.

Carl's quest to reduce automobile emissions led him to first consider natural gas vehicles. He pioneered the conversion of vehicles to natural gas back in the early 80s. Eventually, he concluded that the infrastructure for natural gas refueling would always be limited so he searched for a more practical solution to the general public's transportation needs.

Most recently, Carl has been interested in the benefits of electric cars. Electric cars and trucks produce zero pollution and operate at a fraction of the cost of gas-powered vehicles. Carl and his grandson, Spencer Stromberg, started Electric Car Company, a Murray-based business whose mission is to teach others how to convert many makes and models of cars to run on battery power. A battery-powered electric car will run for more than a million miles with very little maintenance.

In today's economy, with many people out of work, Carl feels it's a worthy endeavor to train others on how to make an income, converting vehicles into electric cars with low operating costs that don't cause pollution. Carl and Spencer's hands-on training takes less than a week. The Electric Car Company wants to help people get into an exciting new technology that they hope will eventually clean up our planet.

The Electric Car Company won't cure all the world's pollution problems, but Carl and Spencer are happy to be contributing to a solution — one vehicle at a time!

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
