DES MOINES, Iowa (AFX) - One of the nation's best known women's magazines is expanding its reach to India, publisher Meredith Corp. said Monday.

Better Homes and Gardens will be published and marketed in India by New Delhi-based Media Transasia India Ltd., under an agreement with Meredith.

The licensing agreement allows for an English-language version of the magazine to be available early next year.

Better Homes and Gardens is one of the largest titles in the United States, where it has a circulation of 7.6 million and reaches 40 million readers each month.

In June, Meredith announced an agreement with Hong Kong-based SEEC Media Group Ltd. to publish the Chinese version of the magazine and make it available in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.

The magazine is also distributed in Australia by Pacific Magazines.

Des Moines-based Meredith officials said the demand for the magazine's information in other countries shows the universal importance of home and family to people around the world.

"We're excited to partner with Media Transasia to develop a market-leading service magazine providing ideas and inspiration for women in the world's second-most populous nation," said John Zieser, vice president of corporate development for Meredith, in a statement.

Media Transasia India Ltd. is a subsidiary of Bangkok, Thailand-based Media Transasia Ltd., publisher of more than 30 magazine titles in nine languages in India, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Better Homes and Gardens magazine debuted in 1922. The title has grown beyond the original magazine format and can be found on books, special interest magazines, video and consumer products.

The Internet site reaches more than 4.5 million visitors a month, Meredith said in a statement.

Meredith publishes 26 subscription magazines including Better Homes and Gardens, Family Circle and Ladies' Home Journal, 200 special interest publications and books and operates 32 Internet sites. The company owns 14 television stations, including properties in top-25 markets such as Atlanta, Phoenix and Portland. Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be
