Art lovers in London will get the chance to snap up a Damien Hirst or Tracey Emin for the price of a cab ride -- but they must pick out the hidden bargains from works by hundreds of unknowns, the Royal College of Art (RCA) said Thursday.
Every year, the RCA exhibits hundreds of postcards by painters famous and obscure which are sold for 35 pounds (52 euros, 66 dollars) each to raise funds for young artists.
The sale, which first took place in 1994, has become a London institution and this year, interest looks to be as high as ever, with works by Paula Rego, fashion designer Sir Paul Smith and Blur guitarist Graham Coxon up for grabs.
"Support for RCA Secret has grown over the years and the list of artists who have contributed to the event reads like a who's who of the artworld," an RCA spokesman said.
Last year's contributors included Grayson Perry, the Turner Prize-winning potter famed for his female alter-ego, Claire, and his often satirical clay creations.
The postcards go on show Friday and can be bought on November 25 and 26.
A maximum of four cards can be bought per person.
