NEW YORK, Oct 26, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- While "The Wedding Singer" will end its Broadway run this year, the musical is in talks for a series of international productions and a national tour.
Just as the Broadway edition of the Adam Sandler film comedy closes its doors after 284 performances on Dec. 31, the musical's producers are planning both a U.S. national tour and allowing similar productions to open in both Korea and Japan, Playbill reports.
The Broadway musical opened April 27 under the control of Tony Award winner John Rando with singing comedian Stephen Lynch reprising the role Sandler made popular in the 1998 film.
Just as in the film, the Broadway production has focused on the life of 1980s wedding singer Robbie Hart, whose once romantic notions become tainted after his fiancee leaves him alone at the altar.
To date, there is no information on which members of the Broadway production will travel with the musical when the nationwide tour begins in 2007, Playbill said.
