NEW YORK, Oct 23, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- U.S. actress Rita Moreno, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for "West Side Story," has signed onto the cast of NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
The 74-year-old actress, whose portrayal of Anita in the 1962 film won her the Oscar, will play the mother of Detective Robert Goren, played by Vincent D'Onofrio, on the successful NBC drama, said the Hollywood Reporter.
Moreno's role in the popular series from Wolf Films and NBC Universal Television Studio will not be the actress' first foray into the expansive "Law & Order" TV franchise.
She previously had limited roles on two "Law & Order" series, including the short-lived "Trial by Jury" and the well-received "Special Victims Unit."
The Reporter said Moreno, whose work on "The Muppet Show" also won her an Emmy Award, will likely be limited to only three "Criminal Intent" episodes but could potentially do more.
