While he was in law school, Lincoln Scoffield started thinking about opening a title company and got as far as creating a formal business plan. After graduating from law school and practicing as an attorney for a few years, Lincoln put the plan into action and started Cornerstone Title Insurance Agency.
Since its humble beginnings two years ago in the basement of Lincoln's home, the Sandy-based Cornerstone Title Agency has grown to include 16 escrow officers and five offices including one that recently opened in Vernal. The agency provides real estate closing and title insurance policies.
Clients come to Cornerstone Title for the personal touch Lincoln and his escrow officers provide. Cornerstone is unique in its individualized business approach; instead of having several people work on each file, more responsibility is given to one person, who stays with the file from beginning to end. This person becomes the primary source of information for buyers, sellers, realtors, mortgage brokers and builders. This helps Cornerstone Title be more responsive to clients, minimize confusion and allow escrow officers to be personally invested in each file. Cornerstone escrow officers are also willing to travel to clients' offices or homes or work after hours to close a transaction.
Lincoln hopes to see Cornerstone Title Insurance Agency continue to grow until it can conveniently serve clients throughout Utah. His primary goal is that each client feels comfortable with and understands what the closing paperwork means. Cornerstone Title is distinguished by its team members who are people-oriented and care about helping their clients throughout the home-buying process.
