Spanish flamenco star RAFAEL AMARGO is celebrating after being awarded one of the dance's top prizes.
Amargo received a special award from the organisers of Madrid's Corral de la Moreria tablao earlier this month (OCT06), which this year (06) celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The 30-year-old, who is due to tour China and Japan next year (07), received the Estrellas del Flamenco accolade from the venue's artistic director, BLANCA DEL RAY.
He says, "I'm highly honoured. I realise today that performing at a tablao is the most difficult of things - dancing, you have to call up every ounce of what lies at the very heart of your being.
"I am very happy. This is real recognition from the flamenco world such as is very difficult to obtain."
Del Rey paid tribute to the dancer who "shouted out his youth through every pore".
She enthused, "As well as talent he has true charisma. He has stood for pure art." (MT/WNWCAG/SH)
