LOS ANGELES, Oct 4, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Stanley Z. "Zack" Cherry, who wrote episodes of "Gilligan's Island" and "Flipper," died last month from cancer in California at the age of 74.
Daily Variety reported that Cherry, who also produced and directed over 30 films during his Hollywood career, died on Sept. 27 in Studio City, Calif., from cancer.
In addition to his work on such hit TV shows such as "The Addams Family" and "Petticoat Junction," Cherry had earned two national documentary awards while working for the California affiliate of NBC-TV.
Teamed with his wife Carol, Cherry also offered his writing talents to the TV films "Carpool," "Cowboy" and "Illusions."
After retiring from both TV and film, Cherry went on to garner a master's degree in psychology which he used to offer therapy to individuals with Hollywood-related issues.
The paper said that the man behind the feature film "Bunny O'Hare" is survived by his wife, two children, two stepsons, and 12 grandchildren.
