High school boys volleyball: Championships, highlights from every state classification

OREM — For the third season as a sanctioned sport, the Utah High School Activities Association hosted state tournaments in five classifications at the UCCU Center on the campus of Utah Valley University.

Here's a look at the winners from five championship matches.

6A boys volleyball: Lehi rallies past defending champion Bingham in 5 sets

Ashton Shewell totaled 25 kills as Lehi rallied from a 2-1 deficit to upend defending 6A state champion Bingham, 22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-13, 15-11 Thursday at the UCCU Center.

Jonny Dustin added 17 kills, and Thomas Wood had 12 for the Pioneers (25-2), who ended the season on a 12-match winning streak.

5A boys volleyball: Bountiful avenges heartbreaking loss, upsetting Wasatch

Landon Chism stuffed the stat sheet with 14 kills, four aces and two blocks as Bountiful avenged an earlier loss during the regular season with a 25-13, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21 win over Wasatch in the 5A state championship Thursday at UVU.

Aidan Sanford put down 15 kills with three blocks for the Redhawks (29-3), who got 14 kills and a block from Cooper Wood.

4A boys volleyball: Mountain View holds off Desert Hills for 1st state title

Brodie Hoag notched 27 kills as Mountain View held off Desert Hills, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21, 25-23, 15-12 to clinch its first-ever boys volleyball state championship Saturday at UVU.

Nicholas Nelson was primed for the Bruins (25-5) with 20 kills, and teammate Carson King added 12 kills.

3A boys volleyball: Morgan repeats as champions

Kevin Wangsgard had 21 kills on a .377 hitting percentage as Morgan polished off its second-consecutive boys' volleyball title with a 25-20, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21 win over Ogden on Saturday at the UCCU Center.

Nate Wangsgard added seven kills, six blocks and 16 digs for the Trojans (19-12), and David Thomsen supplied 14 blocks and four kills.

2A boys volleyball: Salt Lake Academy tops American Heritage for 1st championship

Salt Lake Academy overcame an early deficit to top American Heritage, 25-27, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21 and clinched the program's state title Saturday night in the 2A championship match.
