THE JUNGLE — We've all seen videos of search and rescue crews hoisting injured hikers out of canyons on ropes dangling from a helicopter, or of soldiers being whisked to safety on winch lines.
But if you think such daring rescues are exclusive to humans, think again.
After a baby sloth fell from a tree in Venezuela, its mother struggled to climb down to rescue the pup because the trunk of the tree was too wide. Rescuers at the scene placed a rope in the tree to help the mother descend, but this video shows how she found a simpler way: hoisting the baby up using the rope.
"The baby was placed on the rope, and we let the mother do the work," said a bystander who caught the rescue on camera.
Sure enough, it worked. The mother methodically pulled her baby up — with significantly more urgency than is usually seen in sloths — and the baby squealed as they were reunited.
